Foxtrot at Spruce Meadows: Calgary’s Wood-Fired Restaurant for Holiday Parties, Client Lunches and Romantic Dinners

Some restaurants are simply a place to eat. A rare few become the reason you make the drive. Foxtrot at Spruce Meadows is one of them.

Foxtrot Dinning Room

Step through the door and the first thing you notice isn’t the view or the design. It’s the smell: a gentle, warm aroma of wood fire drifting through the room that makes you feel welcome before anyone has said a word. That kind of warmth is often missing in hospitality, and at Foxtrot it’s no accident. It’s built into everything they do.

Opened in the fall of 2025 as the first restaurant ever built on the 500-acre Spruce Meadows grounds, Foxtrot has quickly become one of the most talked-about dining rooms in southern Alberta. It works just as well for an intimate dinner for two as it does for a corporate function of 300. And with the holiday season around the corner, it may be the best answer yet to the question every Calgary office is asking right now: where are we having the Christmas party?

I recently had the opportunity to discover what Foxtrot was about with a behind the scenes tour from their Event Director - Dominique Bushnaq and as such we’re proud to welcome Foxtrot as the newest site partner on Explore Foothills. Here’s why it belongs on your list.

A Wood-Fired Restaurant Worth the Drive from Calgary

Foxtrot takes its name from an unexpected visitor: a fox that trotted across the International Ring one early morning at Spruce Meadows. (It’s also a nod to a horse’s gait, which suits the neighbours.) The restaurant borrows that fox’s grace and quiet confidence, then pairs it with a simple idea from restaurant director David Singleton: everything on the menu should be touched by fire. That means rotisserie, charcoal and live-fire cooking at the heart of the kitchen, with dishes designed to be shared around the table.

The room backs it up. Designed by Smiddy Stegman, the space is full of warm wood and natural stone, with a central bar clad in green granite, a fireplace lounge, floor-to-ceiling windows, and an open kitchen you can watch while you wait for dinner. Even better, the dining room looks out over the International Ring, so the view changes with the season, from green summer show-jumping to a snow-dusted arena lit up for Christmas. The design choices feel like the menu choices: confident, warm and never fussy.

World-Class Food and Drink in the Foothills

Foxtrot Cocktails

Foxtrot’s food and beverage program is the reason people book a table, and the reason they come back. Recent menus have featured cast-iron-baked milk buns, wood-roasted chicken, juicy steaks with house-made tater tots, dry-aged duck with charred endive and pear, and a sablefish dish over caramelized yogurt and celery root that diners rave about. Even dessert gets the fire treatment, with a crème brûlée that uses rotisserie-cooked pineapple. Menus change with the seasons, so check the current Foxtrot menu before you go.

The bar program is just as thoughtful. Expect classic cocktails with a modern edge (the Smoke Show Old Fashioned is a good place to start), a sommelier-curated wine list built for pairing, and zero-proof options that feel like real drinks rather than afterthoughts.

One Venue for Every Occasion

The most impressive thing about Foxtrot is its range. The same building that hosts a quiet Tuesday date night also runs full-scale corporate events and weddings, and it does both well.

A Romantic Dinner for Two

Looking for a romantic dinner in Calgary that feels like an escape without the long drive? Book a table near the windows, order something from the fire, and let the arena glow do the rest. With soft lighting, a fireplace lounge and a wine list made for sharing, Foxtrot makes date night, anniversaries and proposals feel special without feeling stuffy. In the warmer months, the upstairs Rooftop adds fire tables and golden-hour views.

A Client Lunch or Business Dinner

Foxtrot serves lunch Wednesday through Sunday and dinner every day, making it an easy pick when you need to impress a client or reward a team. The atmosphere is polished but relaxed, the service is attentive, and the parking is easy (a real bonus compared with downtown). Private rooms such as The Den and The Burrow suit smaller meetings and executive dinners, and Café Foxtrot next door is perfect for a morning coffee before the day begins.

Private Events from 15 to 300 Guests

If you’re searching for a corporate event venue or private dining room in Calgary, Foxtrot’s flexibility is hard to beat. Groups can choose from:

•      The Fox Hollow, a modern main-floor event space with its own bar and direct access to the lawn for indoor-outdoor events

•      The Main Dining Room, Bar & Lounge and Patio for receptions, dinners and cocktail parties

•      The Den and The Burrow, intimate private dining rooms for smaller groups

•      The Rooftop, an open-air space with 84-plus seats, a retractable sunshade, patio heaters, three fire tables and its own kitchen and bar

•      Full restaurant buyouts for the biggest celebrations, from corporate galas to weddings and milestone events

Every event comes with a dedicated in-house event lead, custom food and beverage menus (including dietary needs), floor plan coordination, full setup and teardown, printed menus, elevator access and plenty of free parking. You bring the guest list, and the team handles the rest.

Your Holiday Party at Foxtrot: Calgary’s Newest Christmas Party Venue

Let’s be honest: planning a holiday party is rarely anyone’s favourite job. Foxtrot makes it easy, and makes it memorable.

The timing is hard to beat. The Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market, runs four weekends this year (November 13–15, 20–22, 27–29 and December 4–6), drawing tens of thousands of visitors to the grounds. Book your team’s dinner at Foxtrot and you can make an unforgettable evening of it: shop the market, then settle in for a long, relaxed meal by the fire.

For your holiday party, you can choose the format that fits your group:

•      Canapé receptions with passed or placed bites such as charcoal-roasted beet, tuna tartare, lobster rolls and house tater tots

•      Plated three-course dinners built around signature rotisserie chicken and beef striploin

•      Family-style feasts with shared salads and your choice of rotisserie chicken, charcoal-roasted AAA beef or butter-poached Chinook salmon

•      Chef-attended stations such as a champagne oyster bar and hand-carved AAA beef roast

•      Late-night bites like poutine, sliders and flatbreads for the after-dinner crowd

Planning a smaller thank-you? A holiday client lunch or a team lunch is a lovely way to mark the season without the pressure of a big evening. And if you’re shopping for someone special, Foxtrot gift cards make an easy, thoughtful gift for clients, colleagues and family.

A quick planning tip: December dates go quickly across Calgary, so reach out early. Event details and menu selections are typically finalized about two weeks before your party, which leaves plenty of time to get everything just right.
