Thanksgiving in the Foothills: Turkeys, Pies and Fall Fun

Thanksgiving weekend has a way of sneaking up on you. One minute it's still summer patio weather, the next you're scrambling to find a turkey and wondering if you have time to make a pie from scratch. The good news is the Foothills has you covered on all of it, real turkeys raised right down the road, pies worth building a menu around, and pumpkin patches perfect for spending the long weekend outside before the table gets set.
Here's where to go for the best of the season, all within easy reach of the Foothills.
Farm Fresh Turkeys
If you want a turkey that didn't come shrink wrapped from a grocery aisle, Winter's Turkey Farm is worth the drive. The family farm has been raising turkeys for four generations, 2026 marks their 68th year doing it, and their birds are whole, grain fed, and raised with the kind of care that actually shows up on the plate.
Their Thanksgiving Farm Fresh Pickup is set for Friday, October 9, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. Pre-ordering is recommended, pickup slots fill up fast this time of year.
Pies Worth Driving For
Nobody's judging you for skipping the homemade pie this year, not when there are spots like these nearby.
Ubuntu Pies in High River has built a serious local following on savoury hand pies, with roughly 13 varieties on rotation, think steak and kidney, BBQ chicken, jerk chicken, spinach and feta, plus seasonal sweet options. A great pick if you want to round out the Thanksgiving table with something a little different.
The Seasoned Kitchen, based in Diamond Valley, specializes in more than 14 varieties of homemade meat pies alongside fruit pies, buttermilk biscuits, and soups. Everything is precooked or frozen, so pick up what you need and heat it up on the day.
Out in Bragg Creek, Mabel and Marie's is a family run bakery known for fresh bread, meat pies, and sweet pies alongside their scratch made weekend donuts. A great stop if you're already heading that way for a fall hike.
Back in Okotoks, 94 Take the Cake on Elma Street bakes pies fresh from scratch daily alongside cakes, cookies, and squares, with gluten free options available. Their selection changes daily, so it's worth calling in before you go.
And if you're already headed to The Saskatoon Farm for pumpkins, don't leave without stopping at their bakery. It's known for fresh saskatoon berry pie made with their own farm grown berries, along with butter tarts, scones, and sourdough.
Last Call for Fall Fun
Some of fall's favourite outdoor traditions are wrapping up fast this month, so if you haven't made it out yet, here's your last window.

Granary Road runs its Fall Pumpkin Fest, Pumpkins in the Dark, on weekends until October 25, with specific Harvest Fair dates in October 3 to 4. Expect tractor rides out to the pumpkin patch, a pumpkin scavenger hunt, a corn maze, a giant play structure area, and an on site farmers market. Admission starts at $29.95.
The Saskatoon Farm also runs its own Annual Fall Fair, with its final weekend on October 3 and 4, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Expect a full pumpkin patch, pumpkin playhouses, hay pyramids, and that cozy fall atmosphere the farm is known for, plus their farm stand and bakery on site. Admission is $29.95. A good option if you're already planning a fall outing to the farm this month, just catch it before the season wraps up.
Haunted Hartell closes things out with a scare. Running October 23, 24, and 25, from 4 to 8 p.m., this small haunted house is a Hartell Homestead tradition, built fresh every year. It's a free event, though donations are welcome to help make it even better next year.
Make a Weekend of It
Thanksgiving in the Foothills doesn't have to mean a single meal and a long drive home. Pick up your turkey early in the week, swing by a pumpkin patch for a Saturday outing, and grab dessert from one of the local pie spots on your way through town. It's a weekend built around slowing down, and the Foothills makes that easy.
