Why Okotoks is Becoming a Baseball Destination

There's always been something special about Okotoks. Nestled in the rolling hills just south of Calgary, this small-town gem has long been a favourite for outdoor adventures, local flavour, and community spirit. But lately, something new is happening in the Foothills — and it has everything to do with the crack of a bat and the roar of a crowd.
Okotoks is quietly becoming one of Canada's top baseball destinations. Here's why.

The Okotoks Dawgs: A Winning Tradition
It starts with the team. The Okotoks Dawgs have been a powerhouse of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) for decades — claiming championships in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024. That's not a fluke. That's a culture.
Playing out of the beautiful Seaman Stadium, the Dawgs have built a reputation that extends far beyond the Foothills. With MLB draft picks, top collegiate talent from across North America, and fans packing the stands game after game, a night at the ballpark in Okotoks has become a can't-miss summer experience.
Seaman Stadium: A Small-Town Gem
Not every small town has a stadium that inspires this kind of loyalty — but Okotoks does. Seaman Stadium is a genuine gem: open skies, mountain views in the distance, and an atmosphere that feels both big-league and deeply local at the same time.
With group patios, family-friendly programming, themed game nights, and food and drinks worth showing up early for, it's the kind of place where you come for the baseball and stay for the whole experience. Whether you're a die-hard fan or someone who just loves a great summer evening out, Seaman Stadium delivers.
The Big Moment: Baseball Canada National Championship is Coming to Okotoks
This summer, the stakes get even higher.
"The Road to Okotoks" — the Baseball Canada National Championship — is coming to Okotoks July 14–19, 2026, and it's a major deal. Sixteen of Canada's elite baseball programs and 350 of the country's top 19U players will compete across Seaman Stadium and Tourmaline Field in what promises to be an unforgettable week of elite baseball.
These are the stars of tomorrow — players who will go on to represent Canada on the national and international stage. And for one week this July, they'll all be right here in the Foothills.
It's the kind of event that puts Okotoks on the map — not just as a charming Alberta town, but as a serious baseball destination.
A Perfect Weekend Trip from Calgary
Here's the thing about Okotoks: it's only 30 minutes south of Calgary, but it feels like a world away. A baseball trip here pairs beautifully with everything else the Foothills has to offer — local dining, scenic drives, farmers' markets, and the kind of slow-down-and-breathe atmosphere you can't find in the city.
Plan to catch a game or two, explore the town, and make a weekend of it. There's no shortage of places to eat, stay, and play once you're here.
Whether you're a local or planning a weekend trip from Calgary, the Foothills has something worth showing up for every single weekend this summer. Check the Foothills Events Calendar regularly — new events are added all the time.
